ANCC

The American Nurses Credentialing Center (www.nursecredentialing.org/magnet), a subsidiary of the American Nurses Association, developed the Magnet Recognition Program in the early 1990s.

As ANCC’s Magnet Application Manual states, “the Magnet Recognition Program has shown itself to be a proven means for recognizing excellence in:

  • The management, philosophy, and practice of nursing services
  • Adherence to national standards for improving the quality of patient care services
  • Support for professional practice and continued competence of nurses
  • Understanding and respecting the cultural and ethnic diversity of patients, their significant others, and healthcare providers.”

Applicants for Magnet recognition must provide evidence demonstrating the presence and full expression of the 14 Forces of Magnetism in their organization.
